The Story

For 15 months I traveled the world seeking to find an answer that may never be found. I meditated in the Great Pyramid in Egypt, I solo trekked for 30 days in the Himalayas, I sat with a Guru in India and so many more experiences. Everywhere I went, I allowed images to fall out of my hand and on to my sketch book without judgement. The central flower of the composition came forth part way through my trek in the Himalayas. After taking a few evenings to drawl it out, I knew that it had to be a painting.

While on that adventure, I would often stumble upon old yogic meditation caves. There was something so magical about walking up on such an intensely sacred space where monks had meditated in isolation for thousands of years. I want to recreate that majestic feeling. I want viewers to feel the exact moment when I walked up to a cave and discover it empty, yet full of wisdom and a few prayer flags - heart opened and jaw dropped.

Funny enough, while I thought this painting wanted to be about Nepal; including symbolism of Buddhism or Hinduism never felt right. The Central American Jungle wanted to come through and so I listened. Sometimes art takes me on a non-linear path that I cannot explain, only find out the why, after the painting is created.
