The Moment

About the Painting
This painting originally started with just a woman in the ocean. She is of another world and has a soft, innocent presence about her. The concept, was that a part of her alien hair would contain a glowing light, similar to that of an Angler fish. As I started to paint it, I realized the narrative of the painting had shifted and it was now subconsciously speaking about a soft beautiful woman luring in “prey” to attack it.
This is not what I want to put out into the world. Instead, I sat with the painting and it began to speak with me. It revealed a much deeper story above love against all odds.
The story evolved into one about savoring the moment – the last light on the horizon, the nectar of a passionate embrace. The lovers are not of the same kind but that doesn’t matter for what they feel is real and no one can change that. This painting serves as a reminder, as Ram Dass famously said, “ (to) Be here now” and that love prevails against all odds and diversity.
A simple embrace can say a million words and be the most defiant thing one can do in the face of change, challenge, fear, or violence.
